Just days into Year 1 and 1CC were already exploring different ways of representing numbers within 10! They wrote the numeral, used Numicon, multi link and ten frames to show the value of numbers… even moving on to pictorial representations! Well done Year 1!
Keep up the great learning,
Mr Kay
After recently completing the ‘Junior Maths Challenge’, Adwaya has qualified to take part in the ‘Junior Kangaroo Challenge’. The Junior Challenge is aimed at students in Year 8 or below. It is the UK’s most popular mathematics competition with over 300 000 students taking part each year. The Junior Kangaroo is a one-hour multiple-choice paper, with 25 questions, which is sat in school. It is therefore similar to the Junior Challenge question paper (but more challenging!).
Adwaya is a talented Mathematician and we look forward to receiving his results – well done Adwaya and good luck!
Mr Kay
I was lucky enough to have a visit from Patrick and Reuben from Miss Miles’ class at break time.
They were able to confidently explain to me what they had been learning about in class and name all of the 2D shapes below…
CAN YOU?
Mr Kay
Hala took the maths learning bear to Tesco and did some maths by adding up decimals. Miss Judge was very impressed. Well done Hala.
From Grace and Melika.
Well done for the work and how neat it is and well done for making no mistakes. It looks like you made good progress.

Yara has been very busy with 4RK’s Maths teddy: Bob.
Yara did a range of Maths, including calculating money for a train ride and equally sharing out chicken nuggets!
Keep up the great Maths Yara.
Today we welcomed children to our ACE Maths Team:
We came up with these goals:
Here is what the team had to say:
“I’m Melika, my goal is to reward great Maths! I used to find Maths hard but I really enjoy it now.”
“I’m Singher, I enjoy Maths and I know I need to work hard so I can get a good job when I’m older. My goal is to persuade people to enjoy Maths so they have good jobs and a good future.”
“I’m Kevin and I used to hate Maths but now I love it! My goal is to spread my knowledge around children and different families.”
“I’m Guza and I enjoy doing Maths because it is so fun. I like helping people when they are stuck. I know that I need to work hard so I can get better.”
“I’m Nyiema, I’m in the ACE Maths Team. I enjoy Maths however, I still get confused and stuck sometimes, especially with fractions. I’m slowly getting better! My goal is for people to go for it and not to worry about what other people think.”
“I’m Grace and I’m part of the ACE Maths Team. Maths is one of my favourite subjects even though it is hard. My goal is to help people enjoy Maths.”
“My name us Ghaziyah, I want people to improve in Maths and reward them when they try hard. I want them also to try Maths in real life.”
“I am Ben and am part of the Maths Team. I find Maths hard, my aim is to get better. I like helping other people!”
“I’m Layal, I’m part of the Maths team. My goal is to make Maths fun. In the past I found Maths hard, but I have improved now.”
“I’m Nicole, I enjoy Maths however I was stuck a lot in Year 3. Now I don’t need as much help”.
Watch out for the Maths team around school!
I was was lucky enough to have a visit from Lucas and Tom from Mr Cosgrove’s class at lunch.
They were able to represent ANY number below 100 using base 10 resources (dienes).
The boys were very confident using their resources and could explain what they did.
Thanks for the visit boys and well done.
This week, Yawar has taken the teddy on an adventure to Crown Point. He has measured distance, time as well as working on subtracting and fractions.
Well done Yawar, keep up the great Maths!
